History of creation
The initiators of the Ile-Alatau National Park were the famous Kazakhstani scientists – botanists, zoologists and soil scientists, including members of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Bykov B.A., Gvozdev E.V. and Baytulin I.O.
They were well aware of the need to preserve the unique forest ecosystems with domination of relict Schrenk spruce and «RedBook» hardwoods – Malus sieversii and wild apricot. The first priority under the constantly growing influx of the tourists and visitors was given to the preservation of all natural complexes with all elements of biodiversity, as well as glaciers, lakes and mountain rivers that provide water for Almaty and many other settlements.
